ISSUES

GrowTh

  • Dave wants to end job-killing taxes and regulations in order to bring better-paying jobs to Genesee County. He is endorsed by the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, voted to cut taxes for all Michiganders, and increase the income tax exemption for seniors (SB 768).

  • We must also encourage skilled trades training programs that prepare workers for today’s new careers. As vice-chair of the Workforce, Trades & Talent Committee, Dave advocates for Genesee County jobs, and has introduced legislation to ensure high school students are informed of the numerous career options available in Michigan (HB 4953).

  • Finally, Dave supports the job-creating efforts to further protect Enbridge Line 5. He has fought against the proposed pipeline shutdown (HR 250), which would have a massive economic impact on Michigan’s consumers and businesses.

Education

  • Dave believes parents and local school districts should be in charge of controlling their curriculum – not bureaucrats in Washington or Lansing. He supports reduced regulations on our classrooms to allow more local control over our schools.

  • We know that students need to be in the classroom to reach their full learning potential. That’s why Dave has fought against school shutdowns and mandates, and will continue to be a voice for our parents and students.

  • Dave has voted to follow through on the promise for equal funding for our classrooms and school districts (HB 4411). David will continue to fight for our students to receive a quality education.

Values

  • Dave is a leader in the fight to protect life and defend our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. He is endorsed by the National Rifle Association and received an “A Rating.”

  • Dave has been a strong advocate for the unborn, is endorsed by Michigan Right to Life, and has voted for a fetal tissue research ban (HB 5558 & 5559). He also supported a state income tax exemption for expectant mothers (HB 4644).

  • Dave is also an outdoorsman who supports an individual’s right to keep and bear arms. He voted in support of making sure concealed pistol licenses are still processed during declared emergencies (SB 11).

Veterans

  • Dave is a US Air Force veteran and the former Veteran Services Coordinator at Mott Community College, where he helped student veterans and their families take advantage of educational benefits available to them. Through Dave’s efforts, Mott is an award-recognized veteran-friendly school.

  • As state representative, Dave serves on the Military, Veterans, and Homeland Security Committee, and works to continue to ensure our service members and their families get access to benefits that recognize their dedication to our country.

elections

  • Our vote is our voice, and ensuring our vote counts is a crucial part of having confidence in our elections. That’s why Dave voted for strengthening ID requirements when voting in-person or by absentee ballot (SB 285).

  • Dave supported legislation to prohibit the Secretary of State from sending unrequested absentee ballot applications (SB 310) and voted for legislation to require a physical signature when requesting an absentee ballot (HB 5288).

  • It is a problem that non-government groups can give money to specific government entities for elections. Dave voted for a bill that would ban the use of third-party money (“Zuckerbucks”) for conducting elections (HB 5253).

law enforcement

  • While our society degrades those who keep our communities safe, Dave is proudly standing with our law enforcement, who put their safety on the line each and every day.

  • Dave voted for increased investment in training, resources, and equipment for our law enforcement officers. He also supported funding for additional school resource officers to more effectively protect our students and schools (HB 5522).

Unemployment

  • During the pandemic, David helped hundreds of laid-off workers cut through bureaucratic red tape to get their unemployment that they were rightfully due.

  • With the dramatically increased volume of unemployment cases, there was widespread fraud and general incompetence at the Unemployment Insurance Agency, which led to delays for individuals applying for benefits. That’s why David led in calling for a leadership change to address these issues (HR 175).

roads

  • Road repairs continue to be a major issue facing Genesee County. That’s why David voted in support of increased funding for our roads and bridges (HB 4410).

  • With rising gas prices, David voted to suspend Michigan’s 27 cent gas tax (HB 5570), and supports solutions to move Michigan towards increased energy independence. He remains committed to finding innovative solutions and prioritizing road funding within the existing budget.

lower insurance rates

  • Michigan had the highest auto insurance rates in the nation – David supported recent reforms to lower rates so you can keep more money in your pocket.

  • David will continue to fight for insurance cost reductions for Genesee County.
