Public service should be about serving Michigan, not lining up a cushy lobbying job!

David was proud to have had his bipartisan bill signed into law this summer that prohibits former governors, lieutenant governors, and state department directors from becoming registered lobbyists for two years after leaving office.

Other reforms signed into law apply similar restrictions to state legislators, including prohibiting lawmakers from working as lobbyists in other states while serving in Michigan (yes, this actually happened recently).

Whether someone is elected or appointed, their focus should be on serving taxpayers and the people of Michigan. These reforms help strengthen public trust and ensure public officials are focused on their responsibilities, and not their next job.

David appreciates his colleagues and Gov. Whitmer for working together to get these common-sense reforms done!

These reforms are contained in Public Acts 74-76 of 2026
